This week’s prompt at MindlovesMisery Menagerie is to write a response to the phrase, “The End of the Road.”

The end of our road came too fast.

Despite road bumps and hairpin turns—

Seems the best things aren’t made to last.

Time spread its wings and flew right past,

In thoughtless splendor unconcerned.

The end of our road came too fast.

The once-blue skies now overcast,

Rain falls without rainbow’s return.

Seems the best things aren’t made to last.

I did not say yes when you asked,

Jagged rip in my heart still burns;

The end of our road came too fast.

If only we could only change the past

For this wish I will always yearn.

Seems the best things aren’t made to last.

To dreams of you I shall hold fast

In my mind the memories burn.

The end of our road came too fast.

Seems the best things aren’t made to last.
