It’s Fandango’s Flashback Friday!
Wouldn’t you like to expose your newer readers to some of your earlier posts that they might never have seen? Or remind your long term followers of posts that they might not remember? Each Friday I will publish a post I wrote on this exact date in a previous year.
How about you? Why don’t you reach back into your own archives and highlight a post that you wrote on this very date in a previous year? You can repost your Friday Flashback post on your blog and pingback to this post. Or you can just write a comment below with a link to the post you selected.
If you’ve been blogging for less than a year, go ahead and choose a post that you previously published on this day (the 5th) of any month within the past year and link to that post in a comment.
This piece was written on this date in 2019 for the dVerse Poets Pub. The word prompt was invisible.
when a chameleon
is trapped
in perpetual camouflage
or your reflection
in the mirror
and its gut-punching
silence when you ask
(like an idiot!)
who’s the fairest
of
them
all.
It’s when you realize
the world has suddenly
gone blind
to you of
a certain age—
That’s what invisible feels like.
Wonderful poem, I love your sense of reality.

Thank you, Helene! Most people refer to my sense of reality as cynical, being jaded, and pessimistic. How refreshing!

love that image of a chameleon trapped in camouflage, truly eerily invisible. your second part is more thought provoking, is it just age that lends us invisible, sometimes race and colour do the same. such a powerful response to the prompt.

“perpetual camouflage” – you are a master at capturing the dilemma in concise terms.

Wonderful poem. I loved the image/idea of the chameleon in perpetual camouflage. Several people have written about becoming invisible with age–something obviously that resonates.

Oh… it seems like aging and invisible is a common theme.

I would imagine so. Once it happens, it’s hard to forget. It’s a lonely and sad feeling.

I feel invisible most of the time. how can you not when at 36 you never even had a kiss. This is a great emotional poem well done.
