It’s Poetics Tuesday at the dVerse Poets Pub! This week’s prompt is harbinger.
the steamy glances
shooting over the top
of your menu with
Cupid’s arrow precision,
the way you look at me
and sigh like a slow summer waltz
watching my heart melt
like Belgian chocolate in the sun
with that curious half
smile on those (gotta be!) kissable lips.
And finally, my tummy flipping
and rolling with
infatuation-morphing-into-love:
that’s when I knew,
for certain,
a delicious heartbreak
was inevitable.
Oh, I like the twist at the end. I thought it was all going to get VERY romantic, and then that sly little slip of cynicism made the reading completely different. Loved all the Valentine’s day imagery that led up to it.

Mmm, this poem itself is delicious and reminds me of a big chocolate cake. It’s delicious and we love it, but then there’s that “what have I done” moment after we finish eating it. A delicious heartbreak, indeed 😉

That’s exactly right, Jade. So hard to resist chocolate and other such ‘delicacies…’
