It’s Quadrille Monday over at the dVerse Poets Pub!
Do you ever think
about me? Does my
existence enhance yours
in the slightest, or is my presence
in your life akin to clear gelatin?
And if I suddenly disappeared,
I wonder if you’d notice
the absence of loose change
jingling in your pocket.

Enjoyed the poem Susan, though I admit to not grasping the loose change?

By “loose change” I meant an insignificant amount of money. For example, pocket change that you know is there, but wouldn’t miss if it wasn’t.

I like the idea of that small (yet perhaps noisy) thing missing, and whether or not it matters. A sad poem, that the questions even need asking.

Yes, it would be sad. If you have to ask, well, there’s your answer, right?

I put my loose change in a 5-gallon glass bottle so that it never gets loss and I will never miss it. 🙂 I like your unique take on the prompt.

oh wow – the use of the image of gelatin really struck a fresh chord here – well done! and the closing, the loose change idea – of being “in pocket” is a perfect ending to this tight 44 –
cool as a cucumber this wording –

Do I detect a bit of cynicism here? I remember after my marriage ended, I felt like a used car that he had traded in – definitely insignificant.

Thank you, V.J. There is a bit of cynicism in almost everything I write. I know what you mean about the used car feeling. I felt like the tarnished trophy wife.

I favour cynicism too. Hard not to in light of life’s bumps.

Nice lines describing the personal concern: “And if I suddenly disappeared,
I wonder if you’d notice”

We all want to be bright red finger jello…a sweet delight to someone, right?!

There are those who pass through our lives, tucking us in their pocket like so much loose change as they move on. Creative write.

Yes, there are folks like that, unfortunately.

This brought me back to the thought that I never have any lose change in my pocket… is there somebody gone?

If someone *is* gone, apparently they weren’t very important to you. 🙂
